Rick is a Consultant for ASU Alumni Law Group, with a focus on litigation and legal services for Veterans in Arizona. Rick retired as a Colonel from the JAG Corps with over 25 years of experience with the US Army and Arizona National Guard, serving in several Staff Judge Advocate Offices, as Human Resources Officer, and ultimately as the Chief of Staff. He has provided counsel to the Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs on personnel matters and employment law, criminal law and investigations, federal contracting and fiscal law, and the nuances of interagency coordination in emergency readiness matters. In addition to providing advice to the leadership within the Guard, he assisted with all training and preparation for deploying personnel during Desert Storm, humanitarian assistance to Haiti, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Rick is a member of the National Organization for Veterans’ Advocates (NOVA), and is admitted to practice before the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the US Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and the US Supreme Court. He also serves as an ombudsman for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), and actively assists in the Wills for Heroes program for first responders within Arizona.
At the Law Group, Rick’s main responsibilities include consulting with Associates in providing legal services to women and men in uniform and the Veteran population. He brings his keen knowledge of this specific area of practice as well as robust experience in mentoring junior lawyers and future leaders to the Group, allowing Associates to expand their practice experience and learn how to resolve legal issues for a large portion of Arizona’s population.
